DNA Ligase

Exploring the Structure

In PDB entry 1fvi, you can take a close look at the activated AMP molecule used in the ligation reaction. This ligase, from Chorella virus, is a smaller version of the one found in our cells. Lysine 27 forms a covalent bond with the phosphate of the AMP, making it ready for the ligation reaction. The DNA will bind in the large groove at the top.
