T-Cell Receptor

Exploring the Structure

Several structures are available that show the interaction of T-cell receptors with an MHC-peptide complex. Two early structures, from PDB entries 1bd2 and 2ckb, are shown here. The T-cell receptor is at the top, MHC is at the bottom, and the peptide is shown with spacefilling spheres the middle. The T-cell receptor interacts with the peptide and with the upper face of the MHC protein. Notice how these two structures are similar, but that the T-cell receptor has shifted a bit to form the optimal interaction with the two different peptides.

This illustration was created with RasMol. You can create similar pictures by clicking on the accession codes here and picking one of the options under View Structure.

A list of all T-Cell Receptor entries in the PDB as determined by a FASTA search on February 23, 2005 is available here. For more information on T-cell receptors, click here.
